This Privacy Policy explains how The Complete Trader’s Edge (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you visit completetradersedge.com or interact with our content, tools, books, podcast, and email lists.

1. Who We Are

The Complete Trader’s Edge is an independent trading education brand operated by Louw van Riet. Our content covers trading psychology, technical analysis, risk management, and trader development through articles, books, podcasts, calculators, and email newsletters.

2. What Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways.

Information you give us directly

• Email address and name when you subscribe to the newsletter, download a lead magnet, or submit a form.
• Quiz responses when you take our trader assessment, including your archetype score and pillar breakdown.
• Tool inputs when you use our calculators (position size, expectancy, freedom calculator). These are processed in your browser and not stored on our servers unless you explicitly save them.
• Messages when you contact us via the contact form, email, or social media.

Information we collect automatically

• Usage data via Google Analytics 4. Pages visited, time on page, referral source, device type, approximate location (city level), and browser.
• Cookies. See Section 4 below.
• Server logs. IP address, request times, and error logs for security and debugging.

Information from third parties

• Affiliate networks. When you click an affiliate link, the partner may share aggregated conversion data with us (whether a click resulted in a signup or purchase, but not your personal details).
• Email platform. MailerLite shares engagement data (whether emails were opened or clicked) so we can improve content.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Send you the newsletter and educational emails you subscribed to
• Deliver lead magnets, free resources, and quiz results
• Improve our articles, tools, and recommendations based on what readers find useful
• Respond to questions and feedback
• Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Ever.

4. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

• Essential cookies. Make the site function (login, cart, comments).
• Analytics cookies. Google Analytics 4 tracks aggregated usage so we can improve content. IP addresses are anonymised.
• Affiliate tracking. When you click an affiliate link to a broker, prop firm, or trading tool, that partner may set a cookie to attribute a future signup to us. This is how we earn revenue from recommendations.
• Cache and performance. SpeedyCache stores cached versions of pages to load faster.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Disabling them may break some site features (calculators, forms).

5. Third-Party Services We Use

We rely on the following services to operate the site. Each has its own privacy policy.

• MailerLite. Newsletter delivery and automation (privacy policy).
• Google Analytics 4. Anonymised usage analytics (privacy policy).
• Hosting provider. domains.co.za (servers in South Africa).
• Affiliate partners. When you click out to a broker, prop firm, or tool, that partner’s privacy policy applies. We have affiliate relationships with FundingPips, FundedNext, The5ers, FXIFY, OneFunded, XM, Bybit, Exness, XBTFX, TradingView, TrendSpider, Binance, and Interactive Brokers, among others.
• Amazon. When you buy our books, Amazon collects payment and shipping information directly. We only see anonymised sales data.
• YouTube and Spotify. When you watch our podcast, those platforms apply their own privacy policies.

6. How We Share Your Information

We share information only in these limited cases:

• Service providers who help us run the site (hosting, email delivery, analytics). They only access what they need to perform their function.
• Legal requirements. If required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
• Business transfers. If the brand is ever sold or merged, your data would transfer to the new owner under the same protections.

We never sell your data. We never share your email with affiliate partners. We never trade subscriber lists.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you have the following rights:

Under GDPR (European Economic Area, UK)

• Access. Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Rectification. Correct inaccurate data.
• Erasure. Request deletion (“right to be forgotten”).
• Restriction. Limit how we process your data.
• Portability. Receive your data in a portable format.
• Objection. Object to processing (e.g. for marketing).
• Withdraw consent. At any time, with no penalty.

Under POPIA (South Africa)

You have equivalent rights to access, correction, deletion, and objection. You can also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.

Under CCPA (California)

You have the right to know what we collect, request deletion, and opt out of any data sales. We don’t sell data, so the third right is automatic.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@completetradersedge.com with the subject line “Privacy Request”. We respond within 30 days.

8. Data Retention

• Newsletter subscribers. Kept until you unsubscribe. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
• Quiz results. Kept indefinitely unless you request deletion, so we can improve the assessment over time.
• Contact form messages. Kept for 2 years for reference, then deleted.
• Analytics data. Google Analytics 4 default retention is 14 months.
• Server logs. Kept for 30 days for security purposes.

9. Security

We protect your information with:

• HTTPS encryption across the entire site
• Secure WordPress hardening (XML-RPC blocked, login attempt limits, file editing disabled)
• Daily database backups
• SMTP authentication for outbound email
• Regular security updates

That said, no system is 100% secure. If a breach affects your data, we will notify you within 72 hours as required by GDPR and POPIA.

10. Children

Our content covers trading, which involves financial risk. While our Youth Edition book is designed for ages 14+, we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us and we will delete it immediately.

11. International Transfers

Our hosting is in South Africa, but our services (MailerLite, Google Analytics, etc.) operate globally. Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your home country, including the United States and European Union. All transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses where required).

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when we add new services or when laws change. Material changes will be announced in the newsletter and at the top of this page. The “Last updated” date at the top always reflects the most recent revision.
